Soshisha, Ltd. of Tokyo first published its Japanese edition of Being of the Sun by Alicia Bay Laurel and Ramón Sender Barayon in 1974. Translated by famed mystery writer Mariko Fukumachi, this edition is hand-lettered in Japanese characters that fall the same spacial area of each page as the original handwritten text by Alicia Bay Laurel.
Ramón Sender Barayon, one of the avant-garde composers that founded the San Francisco Tape Music Center, and a specialist in modes and scales, composed the melodies and wrote the sheet music for the many chants in the book devoted to the natural cycles of light and darkness; he and Alicia Bay Laurel wrote the lyrics to these chants together. Imported from Japan.
