Lightweight, stylish and durable, this apron is an art print created by internationally renowned author/illustrator Alicia Bay Laurel from a page from her best-selling book, Living on the Earth. It's a chef's herb and spice chart, and a cooking or host/hostess apron, all in one.  The book was chosen in 2012 by a committee convened by New York University's Fales Library and the New York Times, as one of the 101 most influential American cookbooks of the 20th century.

Alicia is offering this commemorative printed apron as part of the celebration of the book's 50th anniversary, 5th English edition in 2021, as well as the release of the first French translation of the book, Vivre sur la Terre, in 2022, by Editions Ulmer of Paris.

Modeling the apron is Virginie Gettle, who translated Living on the Earth into Français.  Her granddaughter took these photos of Virginie at her country home in France.

My other friend modeling the apron (and holding her spatula) is screenwriter and film producer Tatiana Blackington James (her husband took this photo in their kitchen in Santa Monica, California).

The image on this apron is Alicia's hand-lettering of the herb and spice chart page of Vivre sur la Terre.

Alas, due to an injury, Alicia was not able to complete the hand-lettering the entire book, which was accomplished by French artist Harmonie Begon, to whom Alicia is very grateful.  So, this apron is the one of the few places you will see Alicia's rendition of this page.  The other is the framable art print she made from it, available here.
